Rediscovery of Atractylis sojakii from southwest Iran, with completing the description and its first report for the flora of Iraq

Abstract

Atractylis L., one of the armed genera of the Asteraceae, is a native plant to the Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian regions. Although this plant is the largest genus in the subtribe Carlininae with over 30 species, few taxonomic studies have been conducted on it so far and it seems, there are still some unknown species of this genus for the flora of Iran and Iraq. Therefore, for the taxonomic study of the genus Atractylis, extensive collection of distribution areas of the genus was conducted in southwest Iran and southeast Iraq. Plant specimens were collected by conventional methods and identified based on reliable sources. As observations, rediscovery Atractylis sojakii form southwest Iran after about half a century since its first sighting in the Bandar-e Charak, Iran (Type specimen) and also its first report for the flora of Iraq. In addition, description of A. sojakii was completed herein based on collected specimens. Photos of the A. sojakii in its natural habitats and its distribution map, and also a key identification to all species of the genus Atractylis in Iraq are presented.

Abstract [Persian]

جنس Atractylis، یکی از آرایه‌های خاردار متعلق به تیره آفتابگردان بومی مناطق مدیترانه و ایرانی-تورانی است. با وجود این که این گیاه با بیش از 30 گونه، بزرگ‌ترین جنس در زیرقبیله Carlininae است؛ اما تا کنون مطالعات تاکسونومیک اندکی در مورد آن انجام شده است و به نظر می‌رسد هنوز گونه‌های ناشناخته‌ای از این جنس در فلور ایران و عراق وجود داشته باشند. بر این اساس، به منظور مطالعه تاکسونومیک جنس Atractylis، جمع‌آوری‌های گسترده‌ای از محدوده‌های پراکنش آن در جنوب‌‌غرب ایران و جنوب‌شرق عراق انجام شد. نمونه‌های گیاهی با روش‌های مرسوم جمع‌آوری و براساس منابع معتبر شناسایی شدند. نتیجه این بررسی، کشف مجدد گونه A. sojakii از جنوب‌غرب ایران بعد از گذشت تقریبا نیم قرن از نخستین مشاهده آن در بندر چارک (نمونه تیپ) و نیز معرفی آن به‌ عنوان گزارش جدید برای فلور عراق بود. به علاوه، توصیف گیاه‌شناسی A. sojakii براساس نمونه‌های جمع‌آوری شده تکمیل گردید. تصویر گونه A. sojakii در طبیعت ایران و عراق همراه با نقشه پراکنش آن تهیه و همچنین کلید شناسایی گونه‌های جنس Atractylis در عراق ارایه شد.
